01.2. Brief history of VR technology
The history of virtual reality (VR) technology dates back to the 1960s, when researchers began exploring the concept of creating a simulated environment using computer graphics and other technologies. One of the earliest and most influential figures in VR technology was Jaron Lanier, who coined the term “virtual reality” and founded the company VR Systems in the 1980s.
In the 1990s, advances in computer hardware and software allowed for the development of more advanced VR systems. The development of head-mounted displays (HMDs) and other VR devices made it possible for users to experience immersive virtual environments in a more realistic way. In the 2000s, the introduction of wireless tracking systems and other advances further improved the capabilities of VR systems.
In recent years, the development of VR technology has accelerated due to advances in mobile computing, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence. This has led to the development of more affordable and accessible VR devices, such as the Oculus Quest and the HTC Vive, which have become popular among consumers and professionals.
